This lovely cookbook arrived in my mail box last week. It's the fourth cookbook in a popular series of cookbooks from The Australian Institute of Sport. I was excited to receive it because I have loved the other ones in the series. They are all developed by the dietitians at the AIS with help from the athletes themselves, as is this one.
It is aimed at busy parents who need to take care of the differing nutrition needs their active families. Each recipe is accompanied by a nutrition analysis with cooking and serving tips. There are 100 nutrition tips from the AIS as well as a series of activity tips to get your kids out and active.
Flicking through the cookbook for the first time, I enjoyed the layout and the fact each recipe had a great colour photograph to accompany it (it's always good to know how the dish should look!). I also enjoyed photos and snippets of chat from some of the athletes themselves. The recipes themselves look absolutely delicious and appear to be very nutritious with lots of vegetables and wholegrains and not too much saturated fat. There are some great recipes suitable for a PCOS eating plan. Ones that caught my eye straight away were the Fish Stir Fry with Lemongrass and Asian Greens, Pumpkin Chickpea and Couscous Saladand the Moroccan Lamb Pizza. Some of the recipes have higher glycaemic index carbohydrates as a large part of the recipe, but they are in the minority and with the right education you will easily recognize which ones to skip.
The ISBN for this great cookbook is 978-1-7423-730-58 and it should be available in all good bookstores. Enjoy!
